Telecommunications I - The BasicsDescriptionThis is an introductory level class for people with little prior exposure to telecommunications and who need an understanding of the technology's fundamentals as well as the common industry buzzwords. The class begins with an overview of the telecommunications industry, the services covered and how they are provided plus the important standards groups involved. Elements of the telephone network are described including telephone calling, types of lines and trunks, switches, tariffs and billing. Next, service types are covered including analog circuits, voice grade lines, DSL and cable plus digital services including digitizing voice, multiplexing, T1 and T3 circuits, CSU/DSU and ISDN.
