VOIP II - IP Telephony Systems
Description
This class covers the technologies and capabilities of IP-based telephone systems, which will replace traditional office telephone or PBX systems. It would be useful for people involved with PBX issues, especially those surrounding the migration to this technology.
The discussion in this class addresses two critical topics - the technologies involved in the building and implementation of IP telephony systems and the related issues involving the integration of IP telephony with other applications and systems in the office. The first important topic covers the technologies and methods for replacing the office PBX function including costs and benefits, IP-PBX, P2P telephony, hosted PBX, IP-Centrex, hybrid approaches, open source software, and virtual call centers. The next section covers integration issues such as the desk-top environment, soft-phones, unified communications, web services, voice-enabled applications, security and vulnerabilities, testing and diagnostics.
Prerequisites: A basic background in voice communications and IP data networking.
